WE GO TO GREAT LINKS TO RESOURCE YOU

SDMI WEBCAST
Many of you attended the Discipleship Summit with Dr.
Woodie Stevens this past June. He and his team
of leaders listened and gathered information from various summits and
want to
pass on to us what they
learned.

to
access this vital information.
This site is packed with
tools that you can use in your Sunday school class, small group or your
mentoring relationships. Check it out!
I am attaching a video of Grandma Barnes that
I pulled from the site. This is a
powerful example of how God can use us.

ADVENT
RESOURCES

The Lectionary is a great resource for
disciple making. As we follow the liturgical Church year we find that
we have gained a fuller and deeper understanding of the ministry of the
Lord Jesus Christ. Studying Christ through Old Testament, Psalms,
Gospels and Epistles gives us a more comprehensive understanding of his
life, passion, death and resurrection.

season of Advent.

Inspiration
"Merely to
repeat his words is not to continue his work; we must reproduce his
life, passion and death. He desires to live again in each of his
disciples in order that he may continue to suffer, to bestow himself,
and to labor in and through them towards the redemption of humanity,
until all prodigal and lost children be found and brought back into
their Father's house."

A
Discipleship Moment: Who is
discipling you and who are you discipling?
These
two questions have been ringing in my spiritual ears since the day we
heard them together at the Discipleship Summit.I can't get away from
the truth that we need to be on both sides of this discipling
relationship; both as mentor and mentee. I
have learned that
no matter how long I have been on the journey, I must have someone who
will ask
me the tough questions and encourage me in my walk with Christ.
Below you will find a story I
recently heard from one of our pastors.
As I listened to his story I was challenged. I realized that as I had
taken my new
pastoral assignment, I had been aggressive about discipling someone but
had not
found someone to
help me on the journey. I have since contacted a friend and we
are going to be meeting once a
month.
So how would you answer these all
important questions? Who is discipling me
and who am I discipling?

Telling Your Story
A few months ago I was sitting in the Forum at NFC. The
district SDMI Team was in Nampa for the District Tour. The room
was
filled with good representation from the area churches. As I
listened to
the presentations my heart was warmed with the emphasis on
discipleship. The part that was difficult for me was the question
"who is
discipling me"? It wasn't that I didn't sense the need to be
discipled, I
just didn't have anyone filling that role in my life. I committed
to
praying about the need that I felt. The Lord was very clear in
impressing
on my mind the name of a man that I have known for several years but I
haven't
known him as a close confidant. As I continued to pray his name
continued
to be the only name that the Lord was giving me. I called my
friend and
told him what I was praying about. He agreed to make it a matter
of
prayer. In a few days he called me back and told me that he would
be glad
to spend time with me on a regular basis. We are just getting
started but
already I feel like an empty place is being filled.
Six years ago when I moved to Nampa the Lord gave me a promise
the first week of my new ministry assignment. It is Hebrews
13:20-21.
"May the
God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal
covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd
of the
sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he
work in us
what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for
ever and
ever. Amen."
From time to time the Lord seems to be asking me, "So, how am I
doing in equipping you with everything good for doing my will?" I
know in
my heart that the Lord has brought this mentor into my life in direct
fulfillment
of God's promise.
Praise the Lord!

Ideas
make the world go 'round!
THE NEW SDMI
BLOG SPOT: A place to share your ideas and learn from
others in the world of discipleship.
Prompted by the young'uns among us, the District SDMI team is
developing a new SDMI blog spot where you can go to share ideas and
glean ideas from other disciple makers on the Intermountain District.
Recently, for example, Pastor Tim wrote about how the Nazarene church
in Ontario is following Jesus together through Advent.
What are you doing in your
family, with friends, through a small group, or as a
congregation? We'd love to have you join the conversation!
Click the "Comments" link at the end of a post to see what others have
added, and to write your own. (The word verification section
helps to keep electronic junk from being added to the page.) You
can post with an account or anonymously.

YOUNG ADULT CHRISTMAS PARTY
Friday, December 12th 6-10pm
Meet at the flying M in Nampa for food, games, and the movie
"Elf"
Have you ever been to a Christmas party?
Well, not like this one you haven't!
Intermountain District Young Adult Ministries is hosting a Christmas
party to end all Christmas parties on Friday, December 12th from 6:00
to 10:00 PM. This party is specifically for young adults - that would
be any teenagers out of high school, a whole bunch of twentysomethings,
and anyone who is over thirty but still feels like a young adult.
Basically, if you would consider yourself a young adult - then we want
you to come and hang out with us at our Christmas party!
The party is going to start at Flying M Coffee House in Nampa at
6:00. Then we are going to go to the old Nampa Floors building (current
home of Lakeview Baptist Church) to watch the instant classic Christmas
movie Elf. The whole evening is going to be Elf-centered. We are going
to have spaghetti with maple syrup, candy with maple syrup, Coke and
maple syrup, the World's Greatest Cup of Coffee...with maple syrup, and
several other things with maple syrup. There will be singing loud for
all to hear and maybe even a snowball fight.
So we are going to have a great time hanging out and watching the
movie. The party is completely free.
We just want you to be there. So
if you aren't doing anything Friday nite, December 12th from 6:00 to
10:00 - come on over to downtown Nampa and see us.
We'll be the ones with
all the maple syrup!

Conversations...
"So what's your story?"
For starters, this picture has sparked many
conversations! We recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of the
Five Mile Family. Many of us produced pictures of us from 1978 or so.
For fun I decided to put this picture of me on my facebook. Some
had no idea who I was while others were stunned to think that I was
ever that good looking and comparatively thin!
Conversations are
the bread and butter of discipleship. It is in conversations
that we learn from and about each other and about Jesus. One of the
most effective conversation starters is a very simple question; "So, what's your story?" Sometimes
we assume that people do not want to talk about spiritual things but
this really isn't the case. They want to talk about what's in their
hearts, but we often shut the door before it opens by trying to make it
a "spiritual" conversation. You would be amazed at what people will
share about themselves if given the chance. "What's your story?"
is a great open ended, no wrong answers type question.
I recently asked a young mother that question. At first she seemed a
little apprehensive -- me being a preacher and all. But I assured her that all I really wanted
to know was her story; good bad or otherwise. Soon she opened up
and told me incredible things about her journey. Suddenly I knew her
life's story and she knew that I was a safe person to share it with. I
resisted the temptation of taking advantage of her vulnerability to hit
her with a bunch of "God talk." The time will come to have that
conversation, and when it does it will be right and God's Spirit will
move on her heart. But for now I have opened
the door to discipleship through a simple conversation in which
I allowed her to tell me her story with no strings attached. Give
it a try, you might be amazed at what God will do.
