BEING INTENTIONAL
Pastor TimIn his Book "The Disciple Making Pastor" Bill Hull says, "Making {Christ-like} disciples is much bigger, broader, and grander than a program, and it cannot be domesticated. By disciple making I mean any good faith effort by leaders to provide an intentional environment with accountability on the basis of loving relationships."

For years Sunday School and even Small groups seem to have been about disseminating biblical information.  However, the true goal of disciple making is not information but formation. I am reminded of the Apostle Paul's struggle for the Galatians when he says "I am again in the anguish of childbirth until Christ is formed in you." (Gal. 4:19)

The Apostle Paul was intentional about building disciple making relationships. He wrote to Timothy, "What you have heard from me... commit to reliable people who will be able to teach others also." (2 Tim. 2:2)

Making disciples, for Paul was much more than filling in the blanks on a page full of Bible questions, it was about investing his very life into those under his leadership. It is our intention on this tour to ignite new passion and equip the leaders of our district to be intentional disciple makers. With all of our hearts we are...

We're bringing everything we've got!
 overloaded car
Some are asking, "what will this tour be like?" So we want to give you an overall idea of what you will experience when you attend.

Your District SDMI Team is packing everything we've got into this tour! We will begin with praise and worship together and then move directly into the heart of the issue with a message and challenge from our Sunday school and Discipleship Ministries Director, Pastor Tim Brewer.  Our District Superintendent, Pastor Steve Borger has committed to be at each event and bring greetings as well as engage in the dialogue. From the large group setting we will then form smaller groups according to age and gender. The leaders of these groups will engage you in conversations about intentional disciple making. In these groups we will learn from each other and spur one another on in our efforts to fulfill the great commission!

This tour will not answer all of your questions. It is not designed to be an end but the beginning point of an ongoing dialogue about intentional discipleship on the Intermountain District. You have the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of this powerful movement on our district!

Yes, of course there will be prizes, give-aways and other fun stuff!  You thought we forgot, didn't you?

WALK-ONS ARE WELCOME SO PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO ANYONE YOU FEEL WOULD BENEFIT FROM THIS GREAT EVENT!
THERE IS ROOM FOR EVERYONE!

A Spiritual Formation Moment: Leave Room for the Miraculous

"So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." John 3:8

The work of the Holy Spirit is a mysterious and miraculous thing! When the wind of God blows over the barren landscape of a sinful heart and brings new life, it is no less miraculous than the day God breathed life into Adam's nostrils! I have been privileged in the past few days to witness a spiritual birth take place! The situation was impossible! The relationship too far gone! For us certainly, but not for God! In one mighty blast of the breath of God, life happened! Though we had prayed, prepared, and provided an atmosphere, we were helpless to breath life into a corpse!

My point is this; that though we must be intentional about making disciples, we must never lose sight of our utter dependance on the Spirit of God! We must be faithful to lay a foundation, create a climate, and pour our lives into the call of God, but when all is said and done it is God's Spirit that gives life!  Only He can breath life into corpses! Only the Wind of the Spirit, in His mysterious unseen way can bring new hope and new life!

This week we set sail together; but as we prepare the sails, let's make room for the miraculous work of God that brings real life!
